“Pass it on” is not just a slogan of a bygone era, but a lifestyle for the Christian who has been comforted. As we are going through suffering, we are drawn back to God, the One who can truly comfort us. The apostle Paul certainly knew this, but then extended that comfort.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are sharers of our sufferings, so also you are sharers of our comfort.
(2 Cor. 1:3-7 NAS95)
Notice that 10 times Paul uses the word group παρακαλ- (“comfort”; noun and verb). Thus, we who have been comforted become God’s agents of comfort for others who need the same comfort. While initially it might feel awkward to try to comfort someone else, take a moment to remember how critical one small gesture was for you when you were enduring suffering, affliction, etc.
May God grant us hearts that have been comforted by Him, so that we might comfort others with that same comfort in Christ Jesus.

I am learning so much about this right now. Slipping little things into my memory, learning what is comforting in difficult times, in the hopes that I can comfort others in such ways in the future. Thank you for this beautiful reminder.
