Update and good reads

I am traveling again this week. Seems like I have been on the road since mid June…, well, I have been. This week: Seminary Summer Intensive focused on Pastoral Counseling. This will be the first we offer through ALTS. Very excited about this: the Rev. Dr. Craig Loving will be the primary presenter; he has his own counseling practice in the greater Denver area.

This week I have come across several excellent reads:

What’s so uncool about cool churches

Damaging Effects of Shame-based sex education

HS Wrestler, survivor of botched abortion

The Art of Praise by Tindell Baldwin

Free eBooks

My goal is to be back blogging regularly sometime next week. I finish preparations to teach the seminary course: Prolegomena: Intro to Lutheran Thinking, which begins the week after Labor Day week.

And in the congregation I begin teaching a series on ER: End Times and Revelation. We will look at principles of interpretation, assumptions behind interpretation, end times from a Biblical and historic Church perspective. Then we will look at Revelation in an old, yet fresh way. The series will be offered on Thursday evening (6:30 PM) and Saturday morning (9:30 AM). Given past studies, this may only take 3-5 years.

And a little bluegrass listening: Kathy Kallick, AJ Lee, and Tuttles

  1. Good a.m. Pastor Rich.  Have you set a day, time, etc for your online prolegomena course yet? The subject material may be a bit over the head of a layman, but I am interested and now have a computor set up that may be able to handle webinar sessions.  Let me know please.  Be safe in you travels and God continue to bless us.  John Malchow   P.S.  My grandson Patrick had a wonderful time in Colo. He has been shepherded by Pr. Mark Homp in Chippewa falls, been baptised and finished his catechism under Pr. Mark, several men in the congregation kind of adoped him,  but unfortunately his family has moved back to the UP of Mich.  Two and a half hours from my church.  He is only 15 and there is not a LCMS in his area either.  He has hopes of spending one weekend a month with Donna and I so he can go to church and communion at Community.  I must say he was impressed with the several pastors he met and spoke with in Colo. Please pray for him.  His home situation isn’t much better, but now when conflict arises he absents himself and goes to a quite place and reads his Bible and Small Catechism, never forgets to bring them when he visits over night and looks forward to going to church with grandpa and g’ma.  Again I ask, pray for him.  Many blessings to you and yours my friend, sure look forward to getting togather.  Hope we have some candidates soon.  With brotherly love, John M.
